Below is a letter we recently received with a donation. To everyone who makes a difference in the Tenderloin through giving, thank you for changing lives. God is not only transforming those who receive, but also those who serve by giving. We would not see life change without you.
“I’d like to contribute to the food pantry in the Tenderloin. I visited San Francisco for the first time this spring. Looking out my hotel window, I watched one day as a homeless man rose from his sleeping spot in front of YWAM and moved to a bench not far away. A woman came out from YWAM and rinsed off the sidewalk with a hose, then noticed that the gentleman had left something by the door. She quietly picked up the object (water bottle?) and quietly set it at the homeless man’s feet. Very touching.
The next day as I prepared for my meeting for the day, I again glanced out my window and noticed a line forming near YWAM. I was in awe of what seemed to be an orderly, quiet congregation of men and women as they formed a line and waited. I didn’t know what they were waiting for, and had to leave for my meeting. When I returned to my room, I googled YWAM and learned that Thursday’s are for the food pantry.
I was astonished to see the outpouring of grace and love your organization gives to those in need. I was touched by the dignity you allow–or so it seemed from the 11th floor of the hotel looking down on God’s creation. This donation is long overdue. Even months since my return from San Francisco, your ministry is what I remember of the city. Thank you for caring and doing something about it. May your work be richly blessed.”
